Assignment 3

Now that you've been introduced to Anna and Kate's father, Brian, tell me your thoughts.  Is he kind?  Does he love both of his daughters?  What characteristics can you already see in him?

  1. I think he tries to be a good father and tries to treat all of his kids equally but it doesn't happen. He knows that his wife and him are unfair towards Anna and don't worry about her near as much as Kate but at least he can see it. He does seem to love both of his daughters but since Kate is sick it seems he'd choose her over Anna. I can tell there's still that part of him that wants to be equal towards them all. Like when Anna came up to his work and he let her stay there with him and didn't send her away. He also seems very busy and maybe isn't home enough for the girls. But with all of the doctors bills I'm sure it's what is best for their family.

    1. I agree, I think that it is natural for the parents to be focused on the child who has the highest risk of dying. What parents wouldn't want to protect their children?

  2. I think that brian is very kind and is a nice guy. he loves both of his daughters very much and would do anything for either one. To me he seems to be very nice and is kind to others. He is a fireman so he sacrifices his life to help others and that is very thoughtful of him.

  3. Me personally I think he is a good father and treats his kids equally but it seems like he is scared of Sara. It seems like he knows that his wife is crazy for not letting Anna make her own choices. He does love both of his daughters but since Kate is sick, in the long run its going to be kate that will be choose in the end.

    1. I completely agree with Brian choosing Kate in the end. If someone's daughter was sick, her parents would obviously be focused on the dying child rather than the other children they might have.

  4. Brian is a very kind man. He tries to love his kids equally but hvaing a sick on in the family sometimes can be hard.I think he truly wants to hear what anna has to say.Her father can see that Anna doesnt wanna do it anymore. It may seem that they are trying to choose kate over anna and jesse because she is sick and they have to spend more time with her, and watching to maek sure everything is okay.

    1. I agree, I thin k that he does understand where Anna is coming from. Btu then again i understand that he is scared if Anna doesnt donate then Kate will die and that has to be a very scary thing being a parent.

  5. Brian is a good father with intentions but lacks to show his love at times. He notices that Anna is hurt and something is wrong at the dinner table. Also, when Anna gets the lawyer i think he mentally does a self check and realizes what she is talking about. Unlike her mom, Anna's father is understanding and doesnt freak out on Anna. He has good intentions, but doesnt display his love effectively.

  6. I think that Brian is a good father that cares for all his children. Although he and his wife, Sara, have been unfair to Anna, Brian still tries to somewhat be fair to Anna. He does this by almost yelling at Sara to hear Anna out when they find out that Anna got a lawyer. I still feel like Brian is focused on Kate, however. The way he saw Anna's deviance was that she wanted attention, which in my opinion is wrong.

  7. He seems like he's watching out for his whole family and puts others before himself. He seems to be something like the peace keeper or the glue between the family. He tries to look at everything and take it all in rather than picking sides and he can quickly tell when something's aloof. I think that does make for a good father.

    1. I think that he acts a peace keeper as well. Also, i think since he does play this role, i think it is hard for him to say his opinion because he doesnt want to make anyone made or stir anyone up.

    2. He even said it himself, he does not want to take sides, even though Anna thinks that one must have to take a side. He serves the role of peacekeeper well.

  8. I think Brian's intentions are good and that he is kind hearted. I feel like he truly loves both of his daughters. A lot of his attention and energy is focused on Kate though. Since so much of his time is spent on Kate, it may appear that he only loves her. He purchased a locket for Anna, but it was because she helped Kate. It kind of defeated the purpose of the gift. I believe that he loves Anna because he wanted to hear her side of the story. He wanted to know why Anna had went to a lawyer instead of yelling at her about it. It seemed like he was taking her side and standing up for her. I noticed that Brain was able to step up to the plate when he was needed. For example, he was there for Kate when she was getting sick. Normally he wouldn't have been able to handle that situation. Also, his family comes first. He leaves work to take care of their needs.
