Assignment 6

Kate has leukemia.  Find a website about childhood cancer. Post the URL (link) here by cutting and pasting.  There are a couple of rules here:  1)  You can't post a site that someone else has already posted.  2)  You must be sure it's a suitable and useful website.  Then you will go to someone else's website, tell me whose you chose and one thing you learned from that website.

  3. I chose Kimberly's website. I learned that cancer affects approximately 14 out of every 100,000 children in the United States each year. I also learned that cancer in children goes through the same disease process as adult cancers, but childhood cancers are triggered by different factors.

  5. I chose Nicole's website. I learned that brain cancer is the third most common type of cancer in children. Although, the brain tumor rarely spreads to other brain tissue. I also didn't know that tumors could be either cancer or not cancer, benign or malignant. I didn't know that, I thought all tumors were cancer.

  6. I learned that childhood cancer is rare compared to adults geting cancer. Although it is less common for young children to get cancer, the number is increasing every year since 1975. Children who are found to have cancer are sent to a group of doctors reffered to asthe multidisciplinary team of cancer specialists with experience, these doctorshave experience treating the cancers that occur during childhood. The multidisciplinary team helps the patient get set up with treatment options and other ways to help and prolong life. P.S: That was from Nicole's!! : )

    1. Excellent point that they are often mistaken for other illnesses. I'm guessing that's why sometimes it is caught too late to be treated successfully.
