This book, while dealing with a very sensitive and heartbreaking time in our history, also tells of the kindness of human spirit and the hope for things to be better.  Have you seen either yet?  Describe and explain why you would/would not like to have lived in the time or place of the story. 

Assignment 3 Fried Green Tomatoes

This novel has a great deal to say about race relations in the South. How did the black and white communities interact in this story both within and beyond the borders of Whistle Stop? Were Idgie and Ruth's views typical of the time and period?  Answer these questions in a paragraph (5 sentence minimum) and reply to at least TWO of your peers (2 sentence minimum).

As we begin the novel, we meet Evelyn. She's overweight, unhappy, and disconnected from her body and self. How do you feel about her? Answer in at leastthree sentences, and then reply to at least two of your peers.

After our first reading, what are your initial thoughts about the book, Idgie, Mrs. Cleo Threadgoode, and Mrs. Couch?  You must write at least five well thought out sentences.  Remember: English class!  Must be grammatically sound!

Sacrifice

Much of what has affected Eddie happened during the war. War is a time of great sacrifice. What sacrifices have you made for someone? What sacrifices have been made for you? How did you benefit from those sacrifices? You must write one complete, supported paragraph.

The quote, "That there are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind," to me means that, even though we don't realize it, we have an impact on the lives of everyone we come across. One of our little accidents could cause someone around us their life. On the contrary, something positive we do can also effect others in a good way for years to come.
