5 People Question 2

The quote, "That there are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind," to me means that, even though we don't realize it, we have an impact on the lives of everyone we come across. One of our little accidents could cause someone around us their life. On the contrary, something positive we do can also effect others in a good way for years to come.

You need to choose one line or group of lines that you've read so far in the novel and tell us what you think it means.  You then have to respond to at least THREE of your classmates' posts.

  1. The pulley was wedged by a small object that must have fallen through the opening at a most precise moment. A car key.

  2. The quote "No story sits by itself. Sometimes stories meet at corners and sometimes they cover one another completely, like stones beneath a river." to me that means that even if people think no one else has the same problems as then someone out is dealing wit exactly what they are dealing with. They may not be exactly the same, but it can come close.

    3. I think it could also mean sometimes people come into our lives for a purpose such helping us get through something we can't get through by ourselves.

  4. Pg. 3.

"They drew in like cold hands to a fire."

When someone has cold hands and they are near a fire they atomatically run up to the fire to warm there hands, without hesitation. So, what I think that saying means is, children are attracted to Eddie because he is always grinning, kind of like a dolphin always is. Eddie just has that effect to have children like him. He doesn't have to say anything to these children, they just end up really liking Eddie.

  5. "In the stories about life after death, the soul often floats above the good-bye moment, hovering over police cars at highway accidents, or clinging like a spider to hospital ceilings. These people who receive a second chance, who somehow, for some reason, resume their place in the world."

I think this means after you die, it's almost like receiving a second chance. A second chance to live. A second chance to be a better person. A second chance to resume a place in the world. It's like recreating yourself in the ways you wish you could. Its like saying good-bye to a distant memory.

  7. On page 9 it says "Every life has one true-love snapshot". To me that means everybody will have a moment of true love. That moment will never be forgotten and you will always cherish it..

  8. The quote, "Greasing a track required no more brains than washing a dish; the only difference was you got dirtier as u did it, not cleaner". pg. 5
What I think this quote means is that it doesn't take much skill or intelligence to preform this job, its just if your willing to do it.

  9. "And once again, Eddie ran. He ran differently now, in the hard measured steps of a soldier."
This makes me think that as he meets these people from his past in heaven he is reliving parts of his life he never knew existed but were always there. It makes me wonder what is going happen after he meets and talks to his fifth person.

  10. "In the stories about life after death, the soul often floats above the good-bye moment, hovering over police cars at a highway accident, or clinging like a spider hospital-room ceilings. These are people who recevie a second chance, wgo somehow, for some reason, resume their place in the world. Eddie, it appeared, was not getthing a second chance." This quote means thatwhen a person is hanging on to there life they somehow magical recover and get to have a second chance at life. Then there are the people who never get the chance to have a second chance. they die immediately. To me this is sad because no one gets the chance to say good-bye or get that closer.

  11. "How do people choose their final words? Do they realize their gravity? Are they fated to be wise?" To me this quote means that sometimes people say things in the moment. Sometimes we don't have time to think about what we are going to say, we just say it. I know people try to think of what their final words will be before they die, but I doubt they will actually say what they think.
